How Shannon ABC Helped Doctrine Skincare with Product Validation

The Company

Doctrine Skincare was founded by Mark, Tracey, and Caoimhe to craft skincare products that inspire cult-level devotion. Expertly formulated in-house by Cosmetic Chemist Tracey Ryan, each product is meticulously crafted with functionality and potency at its core. Doctrine Skincare is devoted to using ingredients that genuinely make a difference, whether plant-based, biotech-created, or safe synthetic.

Their line of products includes Radiant C Serum (formulated using an oil-soluble version of Vitamin C called Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate that is easily absorbed into the skin and resistant to oxidation), designed to revitalise your skin and combat visible signs of ageing, and Divinity Cleansing Balm to soothe the skin.

The Problem

Doctrine Skincare needed to scientifically validate the antioxidant and collagen-boosting properties of their Radiant C Serum.

Solution through Shannon ABC

Shannon ABC has specific expertise in cosmetics and, together with the project’s Principal Investigator, dedicated a research scientist to work on this project with Doctrine Skincare. A range of skincare product samples was received from Doctrine Skincare and tested for specific claims and their overall impact on skin health.

Doctrine Skincare Vitamin C Serum was tested for its antioxidant and collagen production properties in isolated human skin cells (epidermal and dermal cell lines) by Shannon Applied Biotechnology Centre in their laboratory at Munster Technological University, Kerry.

The results of the project were compared to non-treated skin cells, and preliminary data showed that Doctrine Skincare Vitamin C Serum protected epidermal cells against a pro-oxidant hydrogen peroxide challenge by reducing total reactive oxygen species (ROS). Additionally, Doctrine Skincare Vitamin C Serum promoted collagen production in dermal cells.

This project was funded by Enterprise Ireland through the Innovation Partnership Programme.

Testimonial

We [Doctrine Skincare] were awarded an Innovation Voucher from Enterprise Ireland to work with Shannon ABC on our Radiant C Serum before bringing it to market. We formulated this serum with an innovative version of Vitamin C and so we were keen to understand how our product would perform compared to competitors before we launched it. Shannon ABC were a pleasure to work with, professional and informative, and they delivered the project exactly as they had proposed. The detailed report we received guided us in writing the copy for our website and other marketing materials. We are looking forward to working with Shannon ABC on our next exciting launch.
