Shannon Applied Biotechnology Centre is a collaboration between the Institute of Technology, Tralee and Limerick Institute of Technology, each contributing its own expertise to a synergistic partnership in this Enterprise Ireland funded Technology Gateway. Shannon ABC responds to the challenges of Biotech, Food and Life Science Industries through the sustainable development of viable and cost-effective processes and products from bio-resources. Shannon ABC works with companies across a number of Technology Themes including, Bioprospecting, Bioprocessing, Analytical and Research Services and Food Innovation. We work with companies from a range of sectors, including:

  • Food
  • Cosmetic
  • Biotechnology
  • Pharmaceutical/Biopharma
  • Neutraceutical
  • Animal Feed
  • Healthcare
  • Environmental
  • Marine

The Centre for Advanced Photonics and Process Analysis (CAPPA) is an Enterprise Ireland funded Technology Gateway providing bespoke and platform based R&D solutions, product characterisation and process development to a variety of industries. Utilising the generation, control and detection of light, CAPPA delivers solutions to industrial challenges, drawing on the expertise of a strong fundamental research group based in Cork Institute of Technology. The Centre’s core skills revolve around using Photonics and Optics platforms to add value to areas such as process analysis and control, product design and sensing and measurement. Combining selected light sources across a broad range (including UV and IR) with appropriate detectors and filters allows information to be gained on products and process in\at line and in remote areas. Optical systems by their nature have a small footprint and can be cost effective to implement. The centre has projects in diverse areas including.

  • Medical \Biomedical
  • Food and Beverage
  • Dairy and Agriculture

The centre also assists industry in accessing national and EU funding.
